This design takes its inspiration from the motifs often seen on wonderful old Quaker samplers. Instructions are given to make it into a bag to hold your stitching necessities, and charts and instructions are also included for a matching needle book, pin cushion and scissor fob. Instructions are given for making the Dorset buttons and rings used in the construction of the bag and needle book. The main design can also be worked as a beautiful sampler or table centre.
Ring O’ Roses is worked entirely in cross stitch, so is suitable for working on any evenweave fabric. It is charted for eight colours, and conversions for working it in Vikki Clayton’s hand-dyed silks (HDF), Sampler Threads from Gentle Art (GAST), and DMC stranded cotton are given.
No matter how you choose to work it, I’m sure this design will soon become a treasured family heirloom.
